Speed Medical: A Year in Review

The past two years have seen us quickly adapt to a new way of life. Hugging friends and family is often met with hesitance instead of open arms, offering a handshake to a colleague is a thing of the past, and wearing a mask in most public places has become the norm. In times of such change, it’s easy to dwell on the negatives and forget to focus on the wins.

And there have been wins for all of us. Whether that’s spending less time commuting and more time with your family, mastering a new skill, or simply making it through to the other side of this pandemic, we must remember to pat ourselves on the back for the things we’ve accomplished.

At Speed Medical, we’ve looked back at our wins as a company this year, and we’re proud to share everything we’ve achieved. From charity work and awards to new business and staff happiness, it’s been a good year for Speed in so many ways.

Firstly, our charity work has continued throughout the year, and although we didn’t manage to do as much fundraising as we would have liked due to Covid restrictions, we’re proud of what we have managed to achieve. Our staff worked hard to raise donations, over £100 with our Olympics themed competition, plus Halloween activities for the charity OJ’s Care, who do some great work supporting children with autism.

Harry Borman took part in the Manchester Marathon and raised £921 for Prevent Breast Cancer. We also gathered donations internally for the Salvation Army, and continued to support the Every Little Bit Helps (ELBEH) campaign.

Charity is extremely important to us and we’re hopeful that next year we will have a little more freedom to raise even more money for these essential charities.

We’re constantly striving to make our company the best place our team members have ever worked, and this year we’ve made some really exciting internal changes including launching a new Intranet which offers our staff members great discounts, plus exercise videos created by our Out of Hours team, and wellness and nutritional information.

The platform also showcases our outstanding staff members including our employee of the month, and our new ‘spotlight award’ winners, and regular news and updates. So regardless of whether people work in the office or remotely, they’ll always feel connected and part of our amazing team.

2021 saw us celebrate some big staff anniversaries and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the following employees for contributing to our company for a decade or, in some cases, two!

Because our staff are so important, we celebrated Staff Appreciation Day in March, launched our new ‘Spotlight Award’ initiative which highlights a team member who has excelled, and rounded off the year with a fabulous Christmas party.

Cultivating a culture where our team feel truly appreciated is extremely important to us, and we’re happy to announce that this was recognised by the British Claims Awards who named us winners of Best Employer Category.

Despite working in challenging times, we’ve had numerous business wins in 2021. Here are just some of our highlights.

  • We partnered with over 100 new solicitors.
  • We began working with Egress Software to help ensure the integrity and security of sending medical records.
  • We proudly supported the survivors of the Grenfell Tower disaster by supporting their medical reporting needs.
  • We welcomed Nathan Scragg to the sales team.
  • We won a large contract with an occupational health organisation which sees Speed further expand into this arena.
  • We supported our stakeholders though the launch of the Official Injury Claims Portal, offering our customers and suppliers an overview of how the portal could benefit them as well as updating our systems to further support and enhance customer and client journeys.

We’re extremely proud of the fantastic things we accomplished in 2021. It’s been a hard year for everyone, and we’ve continued to thrive even in difficult times. We’d like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous new year, and we’re excited about all 2022 has in store.
